Phuket was never on my bucket list as I deemed it too touristy (touristy-er that the usual places that i go to) for my liking. Being the control freak that i was, i read and watched too many videos and blogs about scams in Phuket that it put me off considering the island as worthy of my bucket list.
The Flight
We flew to Phuket via Silkair, and it was surprisingly better than i thought. Silkair being a sister company of Singapore airlines, we didn’t expect SIA service standards but – the crew did really well and attended to the every whims and fancies of the passengers.
We wanted to go somewhere with a resort feel, a place where we’ll both be able to indulge on our favourite holiday activity; swimming in a private infinity pool. After days upon days of research, we came across this gem(not referring to me obviously heh) –

Located along Kamala beach, U Zenmaya Phuket is perched on top of a hill overlooking the vast Andaman sea, and the resort has a unobstructed view of the ocean. The thing about me as a traveller is that i do extensive research about the hotel or destinations that i am about to go to and going to Phuket was no different.
Basically i chose U Zenmaya over any other resorts or hotels in Phuket because a few reasons –
- It had a private pool access (shared with 2 other rooms) and had an equally breathtaking view from the public infinity pool (pictured above)
- Cheapest among the other resorts that had rooms with private pools
- Consistent good reviews across Agoda and TripAdvisor
- It’s near a shopping centre/ has a shuttle to one (shuttle turned out to be not as reliable as we thought)
The Resort
Upon arrival at Phuket international airport we were picked up by the driver that i arranged. The journey to the resort took about 45 mins and we were both greeted with a garland of flower each and a welcome drink. We sat down and the front desk staff made us choose from a variety of pillows and a array of soaps to choose from.
We were then ushered to our room, and the front desk lady showed us a quick tour of the room, and the connecting pool outside. We were then left to marvel at the beauty that was in front of us. The room we booked was a deluxe Sea view pool access, with a view that was a feast for the eyes.

Jungceylon shopping centre & Big C

After settling down and unpacking all of our stuff, we hired a grab car and headed over to the nearest shopping centre which was Jungceylon Shopping Centre near Patong. We were hangry as all we ate were airline food. We went to Big C supermarket and bought enough food to feed the whole resort (apparently you can never have enough snacks while on holiday). We then had our dinner at Mcdonald’s and naturally we went for the large fries, which are much bigger than the large fries you can buy in Singapore. It was already late by the time we were done with the snack haul and we took the hotel shuttle back to U Zenmaya.
Room Service
We didn’t do much over the next few days and spent the remaining days at the resort, as we paid an obscene amount of money paying for the resort( It was a thousand dollars for 3 nights for god’s sake). U Zenmaya has a wonderful policy of breakfast anytime anywhere (anywhere meant anywhere in the resort don’t be silly) and you could order a breakfast at 5 freaking PM and they would serve it to you – because, service.

All good things come to and end
Nothing good should last forever and holidays wouldn’t be holidays if it were everyday so – like most people we had to go back reality. Phuket had exceeded my expectations and the stay at U Zenmaya has been a dream – albeit a short one. As i dragged myself out of the hotel room and into the waiting car, there was a lingering sense of dread, a feeling that comes when your holiday ends.
But with every ending comes a new beginning, and the next holiday plans are set into motion. goodbye Phuket!
